Ginseng

Fumigation with Douglas Ag allows plant roots to develop in an environment where certain soil-borne diseases are managed.

Protecting the soil from harmful pests and diseases is critical in the ginseng industry.  Unlike annual crops, growing ginseng requires 3-5 years to reach the profitable potential of a crop. The ginseng root grows in conditions which are favorable to root rot, parasites and other pathogens that attack the valuable ginseng root.

Proper soil fumigation can help protect the young plants until they grow to a size that allows them to fight off the diseases and pathogens until they reach harvest.  Fumigation also decreases the amount of water and fertilizer needed by crops, which may help the farmer manage the moisture and organic content of the soil.
